At Hula Halau ʻO Kealaʻākua Naniloa Manaʻoakamai,

The mission of our halau is to keep the Aloha Spirit (Love of Human Nature) alive by upholding the ancient and modern versions of the hula as well as the language and history through chant, music, and song.

Our classes

We offer a wide variety of classes for dancers of all ages and skill levels, from complete beginners to advanced performers. Under the guidance of Kumu Kanoelani Galiza, students receive authentic and deeply enriching hula experiences that honor Hawaiian culture and tradition. Our classes include everything from foundational keiki hula and beginner ʻauana to the strength and precision of hula kahiko, as well as Tahitian, Aparima, and Māori dance forms.

Each class is designed not only to teach technique but also to foster confidence, self-expression, and a strong sense of community. Whether you are just starting your hula journey or continuing to refine your skills, our hālau provides a supportive environment to grow, connect with culture, and share the joy of dance. Keiki hula

Our Keiki Hula class introduces children to the joy and beauty of hula in a fun, supportive environment. Kids will learn basic steps, hand gestures, and simple chants while building coordination, confidence, and a love for Hawaiian culture. Classes focus on creativity, expression, and respect, giving young dancers a strong foundation for their hula journey. Perfect for all levels—come move, smile, and grow with us!

Hula Kahiko, Hula ʻAuana & Chant

This class is the foundation of our hālau, grounding dancers in the traditions, values, and spirit of hula. Students will study Hula Kahiko and Hula ʻAuana alongside Hawaiian chant, learning proper posture, movement, and expression while honoring mele, oli, and cultural protocol. Hula Kahiko builds strength, precision, and discipline, while Hula ʻAuana develops grace, musicality, and storytelling. Open to all levels, this class nurtures respect, cultural understanding, and a strong connection to Hawaiian heritage.

Māori Dance, Poi & Haka

This class in an introduction to Māori movement through poi and haka. Dancers will develop coordination, rhythm, strength, and breath control while learning foundational techniques and cultural context. Poi focuses on fluidity and precision, while haka builds power, unity, and presence. Open to all levels, this class emphasizes respect, discipline, and connection to Māori tradition.

Tahitian & Aparima Dance 

Experience the power and beauty of Polynesian dance! This class blends the high-energy hip movements and drum rhythms of Tahitian dance with the graceful, storytelling motions of Aparima. Dancers will build strength, coordination, and expression while learning the cultural meaning behind each movement. Open to all levels—come move, connect, and dance with our hālau!
